Flaxseed Oil

Not all fats are equal and at Metabolic Balance we not only practice this in the plans we create but also when we educate our clients. One of the healthy oils that we introduce to our clients is flaxseed oil.

Made from dried flaxseeds, this oil has an extremely high content of omega-3 fatty acids including the essential fatty acid alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). This fatty acid is an important building block for cells in the body and for energy production. A variety of studies have even associated flaxseed oil with having anti-cancer properties, reducing inflammation, and improving skin health.

Flaxseed oil has a nutty aroma, but can breakdown easily when exposed to light and air. When buying this oil make sure to buy small amounts and store in a cool, dark place. Although it is not recommended to heat this oil, it is great to use in salad dressings or sauces.
